Jennifer King OAM is a NSW Conservatorium (Sydney University) trained graduate (having studied piano with Nancy Salas, harmony with Dr Alex Bernard and the composer Raymond Hanson, and musicology with the eminent Keith Field) & an accredited Music educator. An experienced studio teacher who offers lessons in piano, musicianship, theory & composition, as well as tutoring on any aspect of the HSC (Music 2, Extension and Music 1) Courses.
HSC Music Coaching:
As a retired Head Teacher of Music, Senior HSC Music Examiner, and member of the NSW Board of Studies Music Syllabus Committee (who helped design and write the current Senior Music Syllabi), I am especially aware of the Music syllabi requirements. My experiences in HSC preparation mean that I am in high demand with many of the most prestigious private and public school’s music departments. I have regularly assisted music teachers with their Trial HSC Performance and Viva Voce Examinations, marking of Aural Skills Papers, Compositions and Musicology portfolios and essays. My HSC students are consistently nominated for encore (in all areas) gaining marks in the top 10% of the state across the 3 courses.

HSC Music Workshops:
I have wide experience in many aspects of music education and enrichment, including lecturing in Concert Classes on performance skills, as part of the NSW Conservatorium of Music Weekend Open Academy Courses and presenting lectures in the annual HSC Study Workshops; Over the years I have also been involved in training music teachers and students at the NSW Conservatorium’s Summer and Winter Workshops.
School HSC Music Workshops and Studio Teacher Workshops are another aspect of music education which I especially enjoy. Personalised HSC performance workshops are available for students & teachers. These are designed to meet the needs of the individual students & teacher’s requests.
Piano & Music Theory Lessons Sydney:
My passion for teaching music is grounded in technique and understanding of musical style and structure, while aiming that each student develops a love of music and reaches their full potential, so becoming a richer person from studying the art of music-making.
Whether students are preparing formal music examinations or beginning pianists (young or adult), it is the joy of music making that underpins my teaching philosophy and methodology. Both AMEB and Trinity Piano Courses are offered for students wishing to prepare for external examinations. I also teach the AMEB & ABRSM theory & AMEB musicianship syllabi, all grades (including advanced levels).

I also teach composition and musicology and offer advice and proof reading of tertiary theses, as well as mentoring support in preparation for honours, masters & doctorate music degrees.

Recital Advice, Eisteddfod Adjudicator, Scholarship Auditions:
I am available as an Adjudicator for Music Eisteddfods and Auditions for private school scholarship.
As an experienced examiner, I am used to evaluating and writing detailed and helpful reports, as the candidate performs, thus saving valuable time. In addition I offer practice exam opportunities for all instruments and voice. I have a small recital space with a stage and baby grand that allows students to gain recital experience.
