Providing Cross School and Regional HSC Workshop Days

“Jennifer is an outstanding educator. I have been privileged over many years to work with Jennifer in organising Higher School Certificate music workshops throughout Secondary Schools in the Illawarra, Lower South Coast, South West and Southern Highland districts.”

Meryl Jackson-Kew OAM, JP, B.Mus.B.Ed, AMusA. ATCL, Dip Teach (Budapest)

Over the years I have run many HSC Music Workshop Days at selected (Independent, Catholic and Selective and Comprehensive State schools), in addition at the Sydney Conservatorium (Sydney University) for the Access program and Open Academy.

HSC Music Workshops for High School Music Departments

I regularly run personalised Music Workshops for schools – both Preliminary and HSC levels, to firmly equip their senior music students for success in their HSC music studies and exams.

Regional and Country HSC Workshops for School and Music Teachers Associations

Over the last 20 years I have also provided similar highly successful workshops in the metropolitan area, as well as Central Coast, Gosford, Wagga Wagga, South Coast and Blue Mountains Regions. These workshops are designed to meet staff (studio and classroom) and student needs. More recently I have run smaller workshops from my studio at Oatley. The feasibility of such workshops depends on the numbers of students.

Workshops at the Sydney Conservatorium Open Academy

I have run many Performance Workshops at the Sydney Conservatorium Open Academy, designed to assess and grow year 10-12 student’s performance knowledge and skills. They focused the performer’s presentation and interpretative skills. These were interactive classes, which allowed the students to comment, as well as mini master classes. I was involved in these programs for over 10 years, and often presented mini master classes at the annual Open Days.

In addition I was the key lecturer for the Sydney Conservatorium’s annual HSC Music Workshops. These courses were held over two days, with many teachers and well over 100 students from years 11 and 12 in attendance. The workshops were designed to address all areas of the HSC Music examinations for Music 1, 2 and Extension students

The days were divided into often 90-minute sessions (depending on the area of study) and included two Performance Evaluations, followed by a brief discussion about each performance. Written reports on the performances, based on the Marking Guidelines, were provided at the end of each session. Other sessions included: Sight Singing, Aural Skills, (Answering the Written Paper), Composition and Musicology Essays and Viva Voces.

I was involved in these HSC Music Workshops for well over 10 years, they were very well received, and as a result I was often invited to work at a number of schools and give individual classes to interested students

I am now offering these same workshops to students and teachers in 2020!
